STCW Security Awareness Training for All Seafarers (VPWOSR)

This one day course is designed to provide the knowledge and security orientation required to enable personnel without designated security duties, working on board Canadian vessels compliant with the Marine Transportation Security Regulations (MSTR Section 214), to enhance ship security and be vigilant of any suspicious activity.

This course meets the requirements of Chapter XI-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and Section A-VI/6-1 of the STCW Code applicable to all SOLAS vessels.

The aims and objectives of this course are to ensure those who successfully complete this course achieve the required standard of competence to enable them to contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness and the ability to recognize security threats and to respond appropriately.

The following core competencies are to be demonstrated by trainees:

 

1.     Contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness;

2.     Recognition of security threats; and,

3.     Understanding the need for and methods of maintaining security awareness and vigilance


A Candidate Document Number (CDN) is required in order to obtain a Department of Transport certificate. Applicants without a CDN must fill out an “Application for a Candidate Document Number (CDN)”, which can be found on Transport Canada’s website. The completed application, together with two (2) documents as proof of identity, must be submitted in person to the closest Transport Canada office.
